Swimming lakes in Carinthia with top swimming water quality
In addition to the high mountains of the Carnic and Julian Alps, Carinthia is known for its many beautiful lakes, which invite you to relax by and in the water.
The lakes of Carinthia shine not only because of their turquoise color and the picturesque landscape they are set in, but also because of their excellent water quality. Annual research shows that various swimming spots at Lake Wörth, Millstatt Lake, Ossiach Lake, Faak Lake, Klopein Lake, Turnersee, Weissensee, Keutschach Lake, Rauschele Lake, Längsee, Presseggersee, and Afritz Lake have an excellent swimming water quality. Carinthia offers plenty of swimming fun and water sports in the purest water!
Just a 2-minute drive from our guest house, you'll reach Presseggersee.
In summer, the average water temperature of this lake is 25 to 28 degrees. This is thanks to its favorable location and many hours of sunshine.
At this beautiful lake, you'll find 4 different lido beaches where you can relax on a beach bed (rental available on-site) on the sunny green lawns. All lidos have toilets, showers, and changing rooms. They also feature a food outlet where you can grab a bite to eat and a drink.
The municipal lido at Presseggersee also offers an ice cream bar, a large playground, a mini-golf course, volleyball courts, and play equipment in and by the water.
You can rent water bikes and surf or sup boards for a fee by the water.
There is also a beautiful walking path around the lake, the Slow Trail. It is 5.8 km long. As you walk, you'll get to see the water and mountains from all angles.
Just a 20-minute drive from our guest house, you'll find the famous Weissensee.
Weissensee is 12 km long and beautifully situated between two mountain ranges. The azure blue water in the lake can be reached via the east or west shore. It is not possible to drive around the lake by car.
Larger passenger boats sail across, taking you from one side to the other. You can also take your bike on this boat for a fee.
At various points along the quay, you can rent water bikes or a rowboat. You'll be even faster with one of the electric boats available for rent by the water.
The good water quality ensures that you can swim without worry. The number of accessible swimming spots is limited, as there are many private beaches.
At Techendorf, a bridge spans the lake to the other side. There, you'll find parking spaces and several restaurants. This is also where you can find the chairlift that takes you up, allowing you to embark on various hikes with a panoramic view over almost the entire lake.
Every year in January, the alternative eleven cities tour is held on ice skates at Weissensee.
